Child Protection Policy
JoMoni Child Protection Policy
Purpose
This policy outlines the child protection and safeguarding principles of Joensuu District Multicultural Association (JoMoni). It ensures that our staff, events and services protect the rights, safety, and well-being of all children and young people involved in our activities.
Legal and Ethical Basis
Our policy is based on Finnish legislation, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and ethical guidelines such as those issued by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and the Central Union for Child Welfare. The best interests of the child must be a primary consideration in all actions.
Definition of a Child
A child is defined as any person under the age of 18.
Key Principles
- JoMoni does not tolerate any form of abuse, discrimination, harassment, or bullying.
- All children must be treated equally, regardless of gender, origin, language, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or any other personal characteristic.
- Participation is voluntary, and every child or young person has the right to withdraw at any time.
- We respect the voices, opinions and privacy of children and young people.
- Safe spaces are maintained in all our activities. We follow the principles of a safer space in all events.
Criminal Record Requirement
All employees working with children at JoMoni are required to present a valid criminal record extract from the Legal Register Centre. It is the legal responsibility of the employer to ensure that all staff have been screened appropriately.
Practical Safeguards
Practical safety measures are applied in all events that are targeted at children or young people, or where children are present among the participants.
- Children’s and young people’s privacy and data are protected. -Taking or publishing photos or videos, as well as featuring children or young people in the association’s social media channels, always requires written consent from a guardian. In addition, ethical principles and risks related to the use of social media are taken into account in the association’s communications.
- Photography and social media use are regulated. In designated areas, taking photos is strictly forbidden.
- If media representatives are present, they must follow this policy and inform JoMoni staff in advance.
Reporting and Response
If any inappropriate behaviour or concern arises, the issue should be brought to the attention of JoMoni’s staff or designated safeguarding contact person. All incidents will be handled confidentially and, if needed, reported to the appropriate authorities, such as municipal social services or the police.
Ongoing Commitment
JoMoni commits to promoting child protection through continuous training, regular reviews of this policy, and active communication with staff.
