Small grant to the development of new and experimental activities in rural areas 2025
The joy of exercise and community in the Joensuu countryside
The Joensuu Region Multicultural Association (JoMoni) is launching a new, low-threshold sports initiative in the rural areas of Joensuu. This pilot program offers an open and free opportunity for everyone to engage in physical activity together and meet new people. Activities will be organized in various locations across the rural districts of Joensuu, including Eno, Kiihtelysvaara, Pyhäselkä, and Tuupovaara. Everyone interested is warmly welcome to join.
The activities will be led by JoMoni’s experienced sports coordinator and football coach, Karl Hancock. Trained JoMoni volunteers will also be involved. At the heart of the initiative are shared experiences and listening to the participants’ wishes — the program will be shaped according to the group’s interests and may include team sports, outdoor activities, and trials of various sports. If there is enough enthusiasm, we may also organize small-scale sports events. The activities will be conducted in multiple languages, with an emphasis on Finnish and English, offering participants a relaxed, practical setting to practice their language skills.
Our goal is to promote a sense of community and provide opportunities for rural residents to connect, be active, and learn together. We aim to create a welcoming space where everyone feels included and where people from diverse backgrounds can make new friends, share experiences, and strengthen their sense of belonging in the local community. Join us to get moving, meet new people, and help build a more vibrant and inclusive countryside!
All JoMoni activities are smoke-free, and we follow safe space principles in all our events.
The program will launch in late spring / early summer 2025.
