Volunteering at JoMoni

Anyone can be a volunteer at JoMoni, regardless of age, place of residence, gender or other characteristics.

At JoMoni a volunteer can participate according to their own abilities, time availability and resources.

Our volunteers participate, for example, as event and language -assistants, in group activities or invent new ideas and activities themselves!

What is volunteering?

Participating in something important, world changing, intervening in injustice, wanting to do good
As a volunteer, a person can participate with ordinary knowledge and skills or use some of their special skills
Volunteering is unpaid work and based on free will
Everyone chooses what they want to volunteer for

JoMoni ry's voluntary activities:

Giving more opportunities for the residents of North Karelia to participate in multicultural voluntary activities that break down prejudices and stereotypes
Supporting people's participation in voluntary activities and investing in the well-being of volunteers
Emphasizing equality in activities

Examples of volunteering roles

Activities and community

Culture Café volunteer – Chat with visitors and help with ideas for activities.
Finnish conversation partner – Speak Finnish with participants.
Group leader or group assistant – Lead a group or assist the instructor.
Childcare volunteer – Look after children during group activities.
Football volunteer / assistant coach – Help the coach during training sessions.
Activity developer – Come up with ideas and plan new activities.

Communications and content creation

Communications planner – Help plan JoMoni’s communications.
Communications and social media volunteer / writer – Write texts and publish content across different channels.
Photographer and videographer – Photograph and film activities and events.
Reels and content creator – Film or edit social media content.
Graphic designer – Design advertisements and other visual materials.
Volunteer translator and interpreter – Translate texts or provide interpreting. (For example, Arabic or Ukrainian.)

Event Volunteer

As an event volunteer, you help organise various JoMoni events. Tasks vary depending on the event, and you can choose a role that suits your interests and availability.

Common tasks include:

preparing and decorating the event venue

welcoming and guiding participants

helping with registration and at the information desk

assisting with the programme or workshops

helping with café, cooking and serving tasks

taking photos and videos

organising equipment and supplies

cleaning and packing up after the event

At sports events, tasks may also include coordinating games, refereeing, making announcements and collecting balls.

Upcoming events and the volunteer roles available for them will be announced separately.

Our volunteers take part in language and culture cafés and other events. They run various groups, such as an English conversation group, a yoga group, allotment activities, art workshops and much more.
